Soccer champs

A very exciting day for Toby today – the long awaited soccer carnival to mark the end of the season. Toby put himself to bed early last night in anticipation of the four games he was going to play, and despite the excitement managed to get a good nights sleep in.  He was up at the crack of dawn dressed and ready to go.  After a quick team meeting and warm up the first game started and the boys were on form playing possibly their best team effort yet, scoring enough goals to clock up
their first victory.  After a refreshment stop and good debrief, they were off again to clock up their second victory of the day.  After another rest period to recharge and refuel, morale was high and the possibility that they might win three games out of the four put them all in high spirits and upped the nervous tension on the sidelines.  Then after a landslide victory on the third game, things suddenly got quite serious as we realized our boys were in contention to win the championships, something we had never considered happening.  Quietly calm, they dragged their wearying bodies to the final game while the parents ditched the sideline chairs in favour of leaping around on the sidelines (we tried hard to be good soccer parents and not yell and leap around too much but by this stage the excitement was getting a bit hard to contain).  And make us proud they did, charging in to
win the last game with an astounding 7 nil score, making them one of three teams that had won all of their games that day.

After a very nervous wait (along with ice slushies to calm the nerves) the final point tally was announced, and the Centurians were declared the 2008 champions!!  The parents were fair
bursting with pride, and the cameras were clicking at full speed as their very proud coach and team manager marched them up to the front to collect their medals and trophies.  So a fantastic end
to the season, making all those dark cold evenings spent fighting the mosquitos while watching the boys train well worth it.

Happy birthday Toby

The big day finally arrived for Toby after much anticipation - his 6th birthday!  And he got to celebrate it in true style with all of the Warren family here.  The day started with the presentation of one of the most anticipated items ... a new bike!  Watching him get on it and ride around bought back many childhood memories I have to say!
This was followed up by lots of very special pressies from very special people, both here and absent.  He loves them all and had a bit of trouble trying to play with them all at once!  We finished the day with a big family dinner out at the restaurant of his choice - the Lone Star steakhouse.  This was enjoyed by all although Toby did look slightly overwhelmed when the staff brought out a big chocolate brownie for him and sang a very loud and stoccato version of some sort of birthday song not heard by any of us before ... along with lots of clapping.   Never mind the brownie made up for it and was fell upon with much gusto before it was eventually passed around the whole table!

Got myself some new wheels!

Some new wheels of another sort

And some monster truck wheels!

The brownie looks good but the singings a bit loud!!

Big day for Toby today - his first soccer match  - now that he is five he can finally play!  He was in boots and all, and did me proud by scoring the first goal of the game.
